The Importance of pH & Alkalinity to Help Manage Eczema
Posted by Kelly Northey on 7th Jun 2014
Chances are that by now you’ve heard about keeping your body’s pH balance on the alkaline side. There are literally endless benefits to eating an alkaline diet and keeping your pH in check – one of them being better control of eczema in people of all ages. Today, we’re going to share a few reasons why working on your child’s pH could be one of the most helpful things you do to heal their eczema – ad we’ll show you some super easy things you can do to make it happen!
Why Alkaline?
The body’s pH measures how acidic or alkaline our systems are. An acidic body is corrosive, prone to illness due to a challenged immune system, inability to absorb minerals and vitamins properly, makes it easy for cancer cells to grow, and much more. An acidic body is the perfect environment for a whole host or health issues to crop up – and that’s why many people avoid it so emphatically.
On the flip side, a body that’s on the alkaline end of the pH spectrum is more prone to better health, faster healing, better disease resistance, and slower aging.
The good news is that watching your pH and the pH of your child doesn’t have to be a hassle. Just by avoiding foods that cause acidic situations and choosing those that create alkalinity can make a drastic difference.
How Alkalinity Helps Eczema
As you may have guessed by the many benefits of alkalinity described above, good pH balance is great for eczema. Alkaline systems are easier on the body and they’re harder environments for things like inflammation, infection, and swelling to happen. When the body is in a state of balanced pH on the alkaline side, eczema has a really hard time flaring up and staying on the skin’s surface. A great win for any family dealing with the itch!
Foods That Help With Alkalinity
One of the easiest ways to reap the benefits of an alkaline body is to enjoy alkaline foods on a daily basis. Here are some of the foods you might like to try…
- Greens like spinach and kale
- Veggies like broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, radishes, and potatoes
- Fruits like apricots, cherries, apples, watermelon, and tomatoes
- Treats like raisins, nuts, seeds, and celery
Here are some foods that could cause excess acidity in the body…
- White bread
- Meats like chicken, hot dogs, pepperoni, and beef
- Cheeses
- Rice
- Nuts like peanuts and walnuts
Choosing foods that promote a healthy pH can dramatically decrease the amount of inflammation and itching your child deals with - while giving them all kinds of other amazing health benefits at the same time!
