Kellie's Baby Eczema Story | Products that helped my daughter become a happier and healthier toddler
Posted by Kelly Northey on 28th Sep 2013
Around 10 months of age our daughter started developing eczema. At first we were not too concerned but then it started spreading and quickly became problematic over a large area of her body. We read a bit on keeping her cool and her play area and toys dust free. We also started using some moisturizing creams and special bath solutions.
Despite this she continued to get eczema and would itch and scratch until she bled and cry with the frustration and irritation. Our doctor recommended a mild steroid cream which worked but seemed to lose its effectiveness quickly and we would need stronger creams.
We did not want this to continue down the medicated cream path and read as widely as we could on the topic. Bamboo Bubby was one of the great sources of information as well as helpful products that formed a part of our overall regime to assist our daughter.
We use a combination of diet, natural creams, natural washing detergents and natural clothing. We ordered two Bamboo Bubby sleeping bags and she sleeps in nothing else now. Even in summer we use the Bamboo Bubby Bag and leave her in a nappy underneath. The bags are well loved and well worn already. Knowing we can place our daughter down for a sleep in the night or day and that she will be free from skin irritation as well as unable to scratch any existing eczema is an absolute life saver.
The only thing we love as much as the Bamboo Bubby Bags are the ScratchMeNot mittens. We have ordered so many now that I have lost count. This is because they are not only practical and functional, stopping our daughter from being able to itch – but they also look so fashionable. I am hopeless at fashion, but all I need to do is add a ScratchMeNot to any of her outfits and it looks like I have coordinated a cute outfit.
We have had so many compliments from people who have no idea that she has eczema, they think it is just a trendy piece of clothing. I imagine this may be good for our daughter as she gets older and may become conscious of her eczema – having something functional as well as funky is likely to be a hit.
There are so many examples of where this has come in handy. Long trips in the car where she would get bored and itch excessively, problem solved, I just flip the mittens on. I think wearing the mittens a lot during her most itchy periods (as well as socks) has helped her balance and core strength as a bonus “side effect”. This is because she has learnt to climb and run and navigate her way through obstacles with the mittens on.
Overall I cannot recommend both of these products highly enough and I am thankful that our daughter has eczema at a time where there are companies such as Bamboo Bubby that are dedicated to the treatment of eczema.

"We can take her out for the walk in summer without long pants on because with the SMN she can't scratch her legs. It's great to not have to fully cover her in summer - She's a much happier and healthier toddler!"
